Interactive Diagram Maya, mental ray, Photoshop June 2009
The goal for this project was to translate the clients 2D static icon libary which was created in Illustrator into 3D. I created a few of theses diagrams in which had to be a totally scaleable process. I set a predetermined camera shot and all the icons can be dragged and droppped in. As-well as my render settings and passes are all saved as presets to insure a linear workflow.
All the icons where modeled and unwrapped in Maya. I then took the U.V's in Photoshop to create the texture maps. I was able reuse some of the paterns that make the static icons from the original Illustrator files. I was able to paste them in as smart objects from Illustrator and to be placed in the texture sheet. This insureed consistency with there already defined look. I set different passes and used Metal Ray to render the final look. Those passes where then later composited useing code, making the icons interactive.
